Polymer Optics Iris Recognition

The Iris pattern is a unique human body characteristic. Iris is an internal and protected yet externally visible part of the human eye whose complex random patterns are unique, stable, and can be seen from some distance. Biometrics iris recognition technology uses these properties for biometric identification and authentication.

Syntec Optics was highly involved in designing precision optical and mechanical hardware and an iris recognition device software. Initially, a major challenge was overcoming peoples’ psychological inhibitions regarding having biomedical lasers scan their eyes.
