Defense Optics

For the past 35 years, Syntec Optics and Wordingham Technologies have manufactured precision optics and opto-mechanical components for the defense sector, including night vision systems, missile-guided systems, and military LED lighting.

Night Vision Goggles

LINE

Syntec Optics and Wordingham Technologies produce high-quality night vision goggles and systems. There are two distinct technologies that can be used in night vision:  Image Enhancement (collects tiny amounts of light including the lower portion of IR spectrum, imperceptible to human eye, and amplifies it) and Thermal Imaging (captures upper portion of IR spectrum, emitted as heat by objects). Defense Optical solutions by Syntec Optics are ideal for all your night vision system needs.

Missile Laser Guides

LINE

Missile systems are an integral part of air defense systems. From optical and opaque components to optoelectronic subassemblies we offer the most suitable solutions for your project or application. Syntec Optics has worked on complex commissions in the past to meet the needs of our customer. Like our laser guides, there is a need for detail and precision optical components to be cost-effective while retaining the highest quality of product. Our team of experts are here to help you realize your project from prototype to production.

Biometrics

LINE

Biometric Security is on the rise. In today’s highly digitized world, users prefer biometric fingerprint recognition and biometric facial recognition for identification and access to their gadgets. This saves them from the task of remembering passwords for almost all the accounts they have on the cloud. Biometrics security applications are not only limited to this. They are being exercised in place of almost every conventional security system. Syntec Optics leverages its expertise in diamond turning, custom optics and optical assemblies to provide efficient hardware solutions for biometrics security programs. The software team at Syntec Optics develops sophisticated algorithms for image enhancement, feature extraction and matching to provide our customers with fast processing software applications for various biometrics technologies. This includes biometric fingerprint recognition, iris recognition, face recognition, retina recognition etc.

Infrared/Thermal Imaging

LINE

Infrared imaging is used in many defense applications to enable high-resolution vision and identification in near and total darkness. Thanks to recent advances, optics companies and government labs are improving low-light-level vision, identification capability, power conservation and cost. In addition to the ever-present demand to reduce size, weight and power, the trend in the military and defense industry is to develop technology that cuts costs, i.e. to do more with less.

Ordnance Optics

LINE

Syntec Optics is proud to be a leader in defense optics. With close to 35 years of experience, in-house production capabilities, top engineering talent, manufacturing excellence and proven optical design and opto mechanical design capabilities, we are a one stop shop for our customers to meet critical needs in defense, military and tactical optics applications for precision optical components. Our team works closely with the defense industry clients to produce quality optics, optical coatings and opto mechanical components. From prototyping to production to testing, we ensure innovative processes are in place to offer optimum results. With ISO 9001:2008 and ITAR certifications, defense and military contractors are ensured that our procurement, production and delivery process is completed with precision and attention to details and is compliant with government regulations.

Head Mounted Displays

LINE

Head-mounted displays (HMDs) or virtual reality headsets or VR headsets are an important hardware component of virtual reality systems. It is crucial to know light propagation in the physical world to understand virtual reality. In the present generation of VR headsets, a system of both natural (human eyes) and engineered lenses guide the light. Optical components play a critical part in the functioning of a VR headset.

2D/3D Scanners

LINE

2D and 3D Scanners use light to make digital copies of real-world objects. 2D scanners are usually used to make digital copies of documents or pictures but can also be used to create 2D images of objects. 3D scanners use reflected laser light to build up a three-dimensional model of an object. 2D/3D scanners detect, measure and evaluate profiles on different object surfaces without contact.

Humvee Lighting

LINE

Syntec Optics, your source for custom molded optics, was commissioned to custom manufacture a Lexan LED headlamp used in an illumination application for the defense industry. We have manufactured complex optical inserts for the mold using our state-of-the-art Single Point Diamond Turning (SPDT) process.

We perform a series of tests and inspections on our heads up display polymer prisms and other diamond turning optics, including extensive testing on the coating. The optical luster is considerably improved through Syntec’s innovation as compared to previous versions attempted by competitors. The finished Syntec product has proved to be of superior quality and design with better optical performance at a lower cost to the customer.

Laser Targeting

LINE

Laser sights are devices that aid aiming, that give the user an aimpoint in the form of an illuminated red dot. A standard design uses a red light-emitting diode (LED) at the focus of collimating optics which generates a dot style illuminated reticle that stays in alignment with the weapon. Laser sights play an important role in applications such as target shooting, hunting and in police and military applications. Apart from firearm applications, laser sights are also used on cameras and telescopes. Laser targeting also finds applications in biomedical and industrial applications.

Protective Domes & Windows

LINE

Optical domes and windows protect sensitive systems like optical sensors in LIDAR systems. LIDAR systems are used in self-driving cars, airplanes, submarines, etc. applications. Optical domes and windows need to withstand the respective environments. Optical performance may be compromised somewhat to prioritize protective features.

LiDAR Detection

LINE

Syntec Optics provides photonics integrated circuit – based airborne LiDAR imaging solutions for defense applications. The necessity for trade-offs is an essential aspect of PIC technology. The design should converge to a fabrication process flow that allows for the integration of all required components. The device needs to be amenable to stringent size, weight, power, and cost considerations. A LiDAR-on-a-Chip system for defense imaging applications needs to be scalable and therefore results in a complex and large electronic control system. Laser selection and packaging, beam splitting, phase shifting, filtering, low-photon detecting, and digital signal processing are some of the challenges that need to be overcome.
