In medical diagnostic applications, microfluidics (control and manipulation of the samples) and optics (sensing) technology are used in combination. Lab-on-a-chip researchers embed optical devices into their microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) to improve the functionality of their devices. Microfluidic optical devices (MOD) combine microfluidics technology with optics. However, MODs integrate these two technologies rather than combining them. This integration provides a new approach for microfluidics applications.
Syntec Optics is a leader in microfluidics and the manufacturing of polymer optics components used in a variety of applications.
